Someone could probably make an adorable, family-friendly animated movie about talking food in a grocery store. But Seth Rogen is clearly not that someone. As an earlier audience had at South by Southwest when the movie screened there, the Comic-Con crowd ate it up sorry — particularly a climactic Caligula-style orgy involving an array of food items. That scene was one of the first things that Rogen and Goldberg, who co-wrote the script with Kyle Hunter and Ariel Shaffir, conceived. There was a lot more fluids involved: a lot of mayonnaise. Why didn't we believe Seth Rogen? Why did we think that, despite teeing up the idea of anthropomorphic wiener-bun intercourse during its opening musical number, his movie Sausage Party wouldn't go there? And not just go there, but become the Eyes Wide Shut of animated food movies? Leading up to the release, Rogen was in equal disbelief.

A parody of Disney and Pixar films,  the film follows an anthropomorphic sausage who lives in a supermarket and discovers the truth about his existence. He goes on a journey with his friends to escape their fate while also facing a psychopathic douche who wants to kill him. The film's animation was handled by Canada-based Nitrogen Studios.
